Hello everyone, welcome back to Marshmallow Station and our story part two!
In the last post, we’ve shared where our shop name originated from, and introduced our two lovely cats. In today's post, we want to share with you guys on why and how we started this business. This is where the real story begins, and it’s a bit long, but stay with us—it’s worth it!
I have shortly shared before that one of the main reasons why I started this business was that there weren't enough "cat themed" stationery and goods that satisfied my needs in its cuteness, and today I want to dive in deeper about the rest of the main reason why I started this business.
I have always loved and been drawn to cute stationery since I was a child, constantly collecting my collection of cute stationery and goods.
However, when I moved to the United States, I noticed a lack of options for cute stationery compared to what I was used to back in South Korea. It seemed like most stationery available here in the US was practical, but it lacked any decorative or cute elements of my expectation. I wondered why there weren't more options like what I enjoyed back home. As I was always searching to find cute stationery and goods that satisfied my expectations, I was able to find a few places that had Korean stationery, but they were way overpriced as I already had an idea of what the original price would be.
That's when I had the idea to bring cute stationery from South Korea someday when I have a chance, and I believed there must be other cute stationery lovers like me, who enjoy collecting and using cute stationery and goods, so why not share what I love with those friends in the US.
As many of you guys may or may not know, Korean stationery are well known for its adorable and unique designs along with its great quality.
Although many Korean stationery are great in general, I wanted to make sure I pick the best ones that will satisfy the stationery lovers in the US, so I had a few guidelines for myself when I pick and choose products and artists.
First, I was mainly searching for artists who their main focus of design were 'cats' as that was one of the most important factor I started this business at first.
Second, the products had to be undeniably cute and unique in its design. I wanted our products to be undeniably cute and unique, so that everyone who sees it must fall in love with it, and also to be able to pop out as a shop to people and be one of a kind that was special.
Lastly, I wanted to find and support artists who were underrated and unknown for the noteworthy work that they create and design. Even among lots of those great artists in South Korea, I specifically looked for those who were passionate about their work, loves and cares each and every product they produce like its their own to use, before they bring it out to their audience.
Finding those products and artists that fulfilled my personal guildlines were like finding a hidden gem, which brought me joy and satisfaction.
At first, I started this business wanting to satisfy other cat lovers and cute stationery lovers like I am. However, as I continued on, my goal has expanded to not just focus on satisfying the customers, but also support the artists who create those works and creations for audience like us, by introducing and sharing their great work through our shop to many others across the country here in the US.
I want our products to bring a sense of happiness and euphoria to everyone, every time they use them or even just by a glance at it as I always try my absolute best to pick the best products for you guys along with the significantly special artists in South Korea. I really hope that our shop becomes like a hidden gem to you guys as well.
